Professional Development & Scholarships

There are four separate options to pursue financial support for professional development. We ask that you start with the SSD professional development funds before seeking union funding. If you have any questions, please reach out to your building representative and/or vice president.

SEA members have access to dedicated professional development funds. Each year, SSD allocates $60,000 ($15,000 a quarter) to share amongst all members. Applications must be approved by SEA & SSD.

Fill out the provided form, have your building administrator sign it, and send to Eva James at SHS via inner-district mail. If approved by the SEA Executive Board, the form will sent to the district office for processing.

This grant supports SEA members attend classes, trainings, or workshops. It aims to support instruction and/or improve student achievement.

Individual teachers or groups of teachers may apply. You may receive only one grant per school year. Teachers from the same school may apply for different grant consideration. Teachers who received grants in prior years may reapply. The grant amount varies depending on the cost of the professional development.

SEA awards up to four $500 scholarships for members seeking further education or professional development training. We ask that you apply for the district professional development funds first. If the district denies your application, this is the next best option.

WEA has community outreach grants and a local engagement grant available to our local. If you would like to pursue either option, reach out to Eva James.
